Non-resident and foreign employment tax.
You didn't move abroad to work out whether you're still resident for UK tax. It's one of the trickiest corners of the system, and getting it wrong can mean paying tax twice, or not declaring income HMRC expect to see. That's where Newton & Co come in. We'll work out where you stand, deal with HMRC on your behalf, and explain it all in plain English, wherever in the world you're based.
Living or working abroad? We'll work out where you stand.
This is for anyone whose tax life doesn't fit neatly inside the UK: British expats, people who've taken a job overseas, or anyone with UK income while living somewhere else. Non-resident tax isn't something every local accountant deals with often, so we made sure someone here does.
Natalie Basilisco ATT, CTA looks after this specialism, and she'll tell you honestly whether you're UK resident for tax purposes, what needs declaring, and what doesn't.
What we handle for you.
Everything below is included, whichever country you're filing from.
The rules HMRC use to decide whether you count as UK resident for tax, based on days spent here and your ties to the UK. We'll work through it with you and give you a clear answer.
Including the extra forms a non-resident return needs.
How income from an overseas job or employer is treated for UK tax.
Paying voluntary NI while abroad, to protect your UK State Pension, sorted and submitted for you.
Our non-resident tax specialist, not a general enquiry line.
Whichever time zone you're in.
Few local firms cover this. At Newton & Co, it's Natalie's specialism.
Non-resident and foreign employment tax is a specialism, not something bolted on to a standard tax return. Natalie Basilisco ATT, CTA handles it directly, so you're getting someone who actually knows the rules, not a generalist working it out as they go.

Things people ask.
Can't see yours? and we'll happily talk it through.
I've moved abroad. Am I still UK resident for tax?
It depends on the statutory residence test, which weighs up the days you spend in the UK against the ties you still have here (family, property, work). We'll work through it with you and give you a straight answer.
Do I still need to file a UK tax return if I live overseas?
Often, yes, particularly if you have UK income such as rental property or UK employment. We'll tell you plainly whether it applies to you.
What is voluntary National Insurance, and should I be paying it?
It's a way of topping up your National Insurance record while you're abroad, so gaps don't reduce your UK State Pension later. We'll check your record and tell you whether it's worth it.
How is my foreign employment income taxed?
It depends on your residence status and where the work is carried out. We'll look at your specific situation rather than give you a generic answer.
How much does it cost?
It depends on how much of your tax situation crosses borders. We'll be straight with you about what's involved, and what it'll cost, before anything starts.
